Ko Panyi

History and Background
Going back approximately 200 years, fishermen from Java Island, Indonesia, migrated and settled in Phang Nga Bay. Due to legal restrictions at that time that did not allow foreigners to own land, they decided to build their homes on wooden stilts in the sea, which eventually became the floating village we see today. The name “Panyi” comes from the Malay language “Pulau Panji,” which translates to “Flag Island.” According to legend, those who discovered fertile land would plant a flag as a symbol.
