The Origin of the Name
“Samet Nangshe”
There is a story that in the past, monks resided in this area, and a nun and villagers had to cross the water to bring food offerings to the monks. This caused the nun’s robe to get wet. The monks then told the nun to “met pha,” which is a local Southern Thai dialect meaning “to fold the cloth” or “to tuck up the hem” to prevent it from getting wet. This is the origin of the name “Samet Nangshe,” which has been used until the present day.
